Root Canal Treatment
Teeth can become damaged through fractures, bacteria, or decay which cause the pulp inside to deteriorate or become infected. A root canal removes this pulp, relieving pain and protecting the health of your mouth.
Tooth Fillings
Cavities can be painful and are caused by decay. Fillings use restorative materials to fill the cavities, preventing further damage to the affected and surrounding teeth.
Dental Crowns for Tooth Restoration
Used to safeguard weakened or broken teeth, dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps placed over the existing tooth and provide not only reinforcement but also offer an aesthetic solution.
Dental Bridges for Missing Teeth
Bridges are used to replace two or more missing teeth. They are composed of a set of dental crowns or implants that are attached, and anchored to the adjacent teeth.
Emergency Dental Care for Tooth Damage and Pain
Whether it’s a nagging, severe toothache, a sudden injury, or another urgent oral issue, prompt emergency dental care can address the problem as soon as possible.

Still have questions?
What is a root canal, and why might I need one?
A root canal is a procedure that dentists use to save a tooth that has been extensively damaged and may be infected. At Tinto Dentistry, this typically involves removing the nerve tissue on the inside of the tooth, cleaning the inside of the tooth, and sealing it. You might need one if you have severe tooth decay, a cracked tooth, or a dental abscess.
In cases where the tooth cannot be saved, a tooth extraction may be recommended instead.
Is a root canal painful?
Contrary to popular belief, root canals should be almost entirely painless! The pain typically comes from an infected tooth that NEEDS to get a root canal! Modern techniques and anesthesia ensure that root canal procedures are typically no more uncomfortable than getting a dental filling. The objective is to alleviate pain, not cause it.
What types of dental fillings do you offer?
Most of the time, we provide tooth-coloured fillings. For fillings that need strength, we typically use composite resin fillings. Sometimes, we will use a white-coloured filling that has fluoride in it; while softer, it will protect the tooth more. On rare occasions, we still may recommend metal amalgam fillings depending on the circumstances. The choice depends on factors like the tooth’s location, size of the cavity, and personal preference.
How long do dental fillings last?
The amount of time fillings last can range. On average, older composite resin materials lasted about 5-10 years. Newer materials used at Tinto Dentistry can last a lot longer than that. However, the most important factor in how long fillings last is regular oral hygiene and dental care. Consistent brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups help prevent decay around the filling and ensure its continued effectiveness. Neglecting oral hygiene can lead to recurrent decay, potentially shortening the lifespan of the filling.
What is a dental crown, and when is it necessary?
You can think of a dental crown as a helmet that we put on a tooth. We use a dental crown to protect a damaged or weakened tooth to restore its shape, size, and strength. It’s necessary when a tooth has a large cavity, is cracked, or after a root canal. A dental crown is almost always recommended on a back tooth that has been root-canaled because they are much more brittle and prone to cracking than natural teeth.
How long does it take to get a dental crown?
The process usually involves two appointments. During the first, the tooth is prepared, and then a 3d scan is taken of the prepared tooth. The second appointment is for placing the custom-made crown, typically a couple of weeks later.
What is a dental bridge, and who is a candidate for it?
A dental bridge is a restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth. Candidates include individuals with one or more adjacent missing teeth and sufficient adjacent teeth for support.
Patients with more teeth to replace, or who want a permanent fixed solution, may also want to explore dental implants as an alternative.
How is a dental bridge different from a partial denture?
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration, anchored to adjacent teeth, meaning it can’t be removed. A denture is removable and therefore needs to be taken out at night. The choice depends on factors like stability, comfort, and patient preference.
