What to Know

What Affects How Much Your Plan Covers


Annual Maximum

Most plans cap what they’ll pay per benefit year. Once you hit that limit, remaining costs are yours until the plan renews.

Coverage Percentage

Preventive care is often covered at a higher rate than major work. Your plan might cover cleanings at one percentage and crowns at another.

Scaling Units

Many plans use scaling units to limit hygiene coverage. We check your remaining units before your cleaning to avoid surprises.

Frequency Limits

Exams, x-rays, fluoride, and other services may have time-based limits — once every 6, 9, 12, or 24 months depending on your plan.

Deductibles & Waiting Periods

Some plans include an annual deductible or waiting periods before certain treatment categories become active.

Predetermination for Major Work

For crowns, bridges, dentures, implants, or orthodontics, Sun Life may require a predetermination before work begins. We can submit this for you.
