3 Important Things You Need to Know About the New CDCP Plan

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is here to help make dental care more affordable for millions of Canadians. But what exactly does it cover—and what should you expect?

Here are the 3 most important things to know:

1. It has some coverage for dental cleanings —But it is limited.

The CDCP covers one hour of dental cleaning per year.

Here’s what that means:

  • So the plan will generally fully cover 1 cleaning per year
  • A typical cleaning appointment is 35–45 minutes long
  • Most people need 2 cleanings per year, so you may need to pay a small fee for the second one

It’s still a big help—but just know it won’t usually cover everything when it comes to your hygiene visits.

2.   It Covers from Basic dentistry to more Complex Dental Work-  with some exceptions

The CDCP covers:

  • Basic fillings/ cavities on each tooth once every two years. This can help fix broken teeth, teeth with cavities or chipped front teeth.
  • Tooth Extractions: Simple and complex tooth extractions, including Wisdom teeth are covered under the CDCP plan!
  • Root canals: As long as the tooth is in good shape, a root canal can help get someone out of pain and remove infections from the mouth.

This is especially helpful for anyone nervous about getting dental work due to the cost. If you’ve been putting off important procedures like a root canal or an extraction because of price, this plan can help get you back on track—without the financial stress.

3.  It Can Replace Missing Teeth—But Only with Dentures

If you’re missing teeth, the CDCP does include tooth replacement options—but only dentures are covered at this time.

That includes:

  • Full dentures- when you have no teeth left in the mouth. We can get started on this Right away without a pre-authorization.
  • Partial dentures: this requires us to apply with all your records for  pre-approval. Our Doctors can assess if you would be eligible at a consultation appointment.
  • Immediate dentures after extractions. If you have to get a front tooth removed, the CDCP plan will cover an immediate denture so you dont have to walk around without a tooth!

Unfortunately, it’s important to know that non removable (meaning fixed in your mouth options) such as dental implants and bridges are not covered under this plan.

However, we offer 0% financing options for more complex dentistry such as orthodontics, dental implants and bridges/ “caps”.
